What We Do

We Save Teens Committee Overview
The We Save Teens Committee, a standing body that reports to the Board of Directors, is responsible for reviewing and evaluating applications for assistance. The process involves examining an online application, supplemented by relevant documentation such as tax returns, clinical summaries, and recommendations from educational consultants. Candidate evaluation is based on criteria established and periodically updated by the Board.
How We Operate
We collaborate closely with educational consultants to create a tailored plan that focuses on the best next steps for a specific teen. These seasoned professionals are dedicated to transforming the lives of struggling teens. They work with the teens, their families, and treating professionals to offer comprehensive support throughout the placement process—before, during, and after. Educational consultants also visit programs, forging relationships with clinical staff to better understand their offerings, strengths, and weaknesses. They apply their expertise to recommend placements based on the teen’s unique needs and the likelihood of success in each program.

Educational consultants play an integral role in our process. Families seeking a scholarship must partner with an educational consultant, and many offer free intake sessions for families in need. Consultants working with We Save Teens provide either free or significantly discounted services, typically offering discounts of 75% or more.
We Save Teens volunteers work closely with the recommended program to negotiate the best option or discount available for teens. Awards from We Save Teens typically range between $10,000 and $30,000, with the amount awarded based on family need and available funding.
Application Process
- Consultant Agreement: The educational consultant must agree to work with the teen for the duration of the process, either at no cost or at a substantially reduced rate (75% or more discount).
- Financial Screening: The teen must complete our financial screening survey to determine eligibility for the application process.
- Application Approval: SavingTeens will review the financial survey and notify the teen if they are approved to proceed with the application.
- Clinical Summary: The educational consultant submits a clinical summary, including program recommendations, tuition costs, parent contribution, and estimated length of stay.
- Continued Consultant Support: Educational consultants continue to work with the teen to find the best program(s) for the teen.
